When I started The Crystalized Community, I wanted it to be just that, a community of women who come together, uplift and empower each other. No mean girls, no drama, no judgement, just good times, lots of laughs and tons of fun!! But over the years and really getting pulled into the business part (and helping others with their business) that I kind of lost sight of where my passion started.
Community, fun and of course creating art together was something that I decided is going to be my new focus. Not that I lost those things, but I wanted to go back to my core, my roots and my passion. So I started creating more community events and opportunities for us to get together, and to do more things that make my heart happy.
I have wanted to a group beach empowerment session for a very long time. I wanted to bring all sorts of women together of all ages, sizes, and backgrounds but they all would be wearing a black bathing suit, to show that even though they are different we are all beautiful.
For 90 minutes we can all show up for ourselves, have fun, strip away expectations, stress, and the daily grind to laugh, make new friends, showing up for as we are, letting ourselves shine.
And that is exactly what happened!!!
I host community events throughout the year because I really want to create a space where women can come together without all of the comparison, judgment, and high-school mean-girl behavior that unfortunately follows women into adulthood.
I want women to be able to show up not knowing anyone, feel welcomed immediately, and leave having made new connections. I want us to hype each other up, help each other, laugh together, and genuinely want to see other women succeed.
That is exactly what I saw happening during this shoot, and honestly, it made my heart so freaking happy.
Some of these women had never met before, yet there they were helping each other with their sparkles, complimenting each other, laughing, and making sure everyone felt included.
Now, I should probably mention that Holland State Park is a public beach, so these women were walking around in their black bathing suits with plenty of other people around us, and at one point we had an audience.
There was something so empowering about watching these women just own it instead of worrying about whether someone else thought they looked good enough.
We spend so much time worrying about our bodies and convincing ourselves that we need to change something before we are allowed to wear the swimsuit, take the pictures, or feel beautiful, and I love creating opportunities where women can practice letting some of that go.
You don't have to have the perfect body to have a good time at the beach, and you definitely don't have to wait until you feel completely confident before you start doing things that make you feel good.
One of the women who came to the shoot was new to the group, and as we were walking back to our cars at the end, she told us that life had been really hard for her.
She had told her husband that she needed some girl time, and for those 90 minutes, she got exactly that.
She got to step away from everything for a little while, laugh, have fun, and simply be a woman instead of being responsible for everything else going on in her life.
That moment really stuck with me because it was such a perfect reminder of why I love creating these events.
Sometimes we don't need anything huge; sometimes we just need a little time with other women where we can laugh, breathe, and remember that we are more than all of the things life asks us to carry.
Of course I love the photographs we created, because hello, I'm a photographer. 😂 But what makes these events so special to me is everything that happens around the camera.
It's watching women who were strangers become comfortable with each other, seeing someone who was nervous start laughing, watching women encourage each other, and knowing that for a little while, everyone got to put the rest of life on pause.
That is the kind of community I want to keep creating through Crystalized Photography.
So if you're reading this and thinking, “Okay, that actually sounds like something I would love to be part of,” then I hope you'll come join us for the next community event, because there is always room for another woman to come sparkle with us.
You can also join my VIP group or get on my email list so you don't miss the next invitation.
And if you've been thinking about booking your own boudoir or empowerment session, I'd love to help you experience that same feeling of stepping away from everyday life, having some fun, and seeing yourself in a completely different way. Let's jump on a call or send me a message!
Because sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is give yourself permission to have a little fun.
And maybe add a little sparkle while you're at it. 💎
Keep Sparkling,
Crystal
